The Democratic Party continues to fracture over the issue of Israel responding with a declaration of war against the terrorist group Hamas after the latter launched a surprise attack against the Jewish state early last month that killed more than 1,400 people dead and saw 250 more taken hostage.
The party’s extreme left appears to be all-in for Hamas and their Palestinian benefactors, while more moderate Democrats have lined up behind Israel and its right to self-defense, including many notables like Harvard law professor emeritus Alan Dershowitz and former president Barack Obama.
“Last week, while speaking at an Obama Foundation event in Chicago, the 44th president addressed the Israel-Hamas war saying that both sides of the conflict harbored some semblance of responsibility,” The Western Journal reported on Thursday.
Obama said: “What Hamas did was horrific and there’s no justification for it.”
“And what is also true is that the occupation and what’s happening to Palestinians is unbearable. If you want to solve the problem, you have to take in the whole truth, and you have to admit nobody’s hands are clean, that all of us are complicit to some degree,” he added.
After those comments, Dershowitz went out on Obama in his “Dershow” podcast.
Barack Obama, you cannot draw such parallels. I must say that what you did was utterly reprehensible. It’s abhorrent,” declared the emeritus professor, a devout Jew who has supported Israel vigorously for many years.
“I have lost every respect I once have for you. Thankfully, a lot of other Americans have also lost.
“You’ve been against decency, against Israel, against the Jewish people, and against justice.” And I’m ashamed that I ever held such high regard for you. I fell for your trick. “I refuse to be duped ever again,” Dershowitz declared.
During an appearance on Fox News on Sunday morning with anchor Maria Bartiromo, he went into greater detail.
