ANGRY AMERICANS CALLS “UNPOPULAR KAMALA HARRIS TO STEP DOWN FOR THE GOOD OF AMERICA”

May 5, 2024

The Washington Post has published an analysis and opinion piece that urges unpopular Vice President Kamala Harris to resign “for the good of the country” and let President Joe Biden select a vice presidential candidate before the 2024 election. Columnist Kathleen Parker made a similar call in 2008 when then-Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin was nominated as the GOP’s running mate for Sen. John McCain. Parker first recalled Biden’s pledge to select a female running mate when he entered the race in 2020. She then praised Harris for her prior achievements and noted that, as a black American with Asian ancestry, she appeared to check off several Democrat Party boxes in terms of an ‘ideal’ candidate after she failed to gain any traction with her own presidential bid.

The crux of the Kamala dilemma is this: according to Parker, her selection was based on both her gender and ethnicity, which was perceived to provide her with job stability. She claims that Biden is faced with a difficult decision now that she is a liability for the Democratic ticket: he cannot fire her without risking losing his supporters.

Biden’s somewhat good State of the Union speech aside, Parker noted that there are still worries about his deteriorating mental health and growing physical weakness.

“Any honest person can tell he’s not at his best. According to a recent New York Times poll, 73 percent of eligible voters think Biden is too elderly to be the head of state. This comprises 61% of his 2020 supporters, the author wrote.

Parker went on to discuss Harris’ depressing polling results, pointing out that a recent examination of FiveThirtyEight survey data indicated that she was only about 37% approved, which is appalling for a vice president or president.

If she were to be unexpectedly promoted to the Oval Office, there’s no reason to believe that her standing would rise. Rather, most indicators suggest calamity.
