In a judicial setting, the former president took aim at New York Attorney General Letitia James (D) on Tuesday, accusing her of “smirking all day long” while his legal team prepared to defend him in the civil fraud lawsuit that targets his corporate empire.
“Letitia James, a racist, is smirking from her seat in court all day long,” Trump posted on Truth Social, his social media network.
“This (unconstitutional!) law includes a (Trump Hating!) Attorney General who is suing for hundreds of millions of dollars in damages when these banks lost not a single penny,” he remarked. “You can see from A.G. James’ reaction every morning from that seat that she is enjoying this, enjoying it a bit too much,” he continued.
During the trial, Trump has reportedly appeared visibly irked at James, who rested her case Wednesday. Trump has long attacked James for what he has described as unfairly targeting him for politically motivated purposes.
When it comes to proving their case, Trump’s attorneys will have a difficult time because Judge Arthur Engoron has convicted the Trump Organisation and its executives guilty of fraud before the trial ever started. The decision to revoke Trump’s company licences has been postponed until after his case has been considered by an appeals court in New York.
The four additional criminal indictments that Trump is facing—two of which are connected to his attempts to void the outcome of the 2020 election—are unrelated to the civil trial. Two more revolve around his purported mishandling of secret documents subsequent to his departure from the White House, and one more concerns his purported attempts to hide payments made in exchange for hush money prior to the 2016 presidential election.
