A rising number of House Republicans are constructing a case against Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s foremost expert on infectious diseases who rose to national prominence during the pandemic, for allegedly deceiving Congress many times.
Conservative podcaster Benny Johnson said, “So, specifically before your committee and also before Rand Paul over in the Senate, Dr. Fauci has, of course, absolved himself of all funding of gain-of-function,” in an interview with Jim Jordan, the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee. “He said he had no knowledge of it. He lied, and it is verifiable and observable. Congress currently has codes. Here is the code I have: 18 U.S. Code 1001.
Johnson said, “Statements—false statements to Congress.” Declares that lying to Congress carries a possible eight-year prison sentence. There doesn’t seem to have been a more blatant instance of someone lying to Congress before.
“Yes, we can handle it—you would refer to the Biden Justice Department, though there might be a referral.” Jordan answered. “You can do that, but I’m not sure if they will pursue it. The Senate Judiciary Committee may recommend a matter to you or to one of the committees. Given that the Democrats are in power, I doubt they will.
“Perhaps we should make a referral,” the Republican from Ohio said. To be honest, I would much rather have Dr. Fauci return and take another round of questions here, but we’re building the case. You know, like, we had Dr. Redfield testify, and Chairman Wenstrup did. I thought he was—I thought he was great. As were the other witnesses that were brought in.”
In the meanwhile, following his retirement in December of last year, Republican Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky delivered a stern warning to the former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
When asked if there was anything he would do differently about the COVID-19 outbreak, Fauci responded in an interview that he had no regrets about how he handled the pandemic.
Most likely, no public figure in the field of public health has erred in judgement more than Dr Fauci. The mistake in judgement was to finance fun research that allowed them to create super viruses that most likely unintentionally leaked into the public and killed seven million people in a totalitarian nation. Paul, a physician who frequently disagreed with Fauci during Senate oversight hearings into Fauci’s analysis and suggestions regarding the pandemic, stated this.
Paul said in December 2021 that Fauci had given Congress misleading information, and he said he would bring this to the attention of the Biden Justice Department.
Paul acknowledged in a Fox Business interview that he is not very hopeful about the prospects of Fauci facing charges from President Biden’s Attorney General, Merrick Garland. He said that Garland is unlikely to objectively scrutinize the congressional testimony of the then-chief White House medical adviser.
