JIM JORDAN DEFUNDS JACK SMITH OVER INVESTIGATION INTO DONALD TRUMP

September 27, 2023

After two indictments, Jim Jordan, the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee and a Republican from Ohio, suggested he would back legislation to stop funding special counsel Jack Smith’s ongoing investigation against former President Donald Trump.

Jordan brought up funding for Smith’s investigations when talking about the GOP-led House’s efforts to approve appropriations bills before the end of the month, when the government runs out of money, in an interview with Fox News host Maria Bartiromo:

Republicans other than Jordan have also suggested cutting off funds for Smith’s investigation, particularly in light of the disappearance of Robert Hur, the special counsel appointed in January to look into President Joe Biden’s suspected misuse of secret information.

In July, Rep. Matt Gaetz proposed legislation that, if approved, would stop funding Smith’s investigations.

Gaetz claimed that his legislation has a legitimate goal, which is to inform American voters of the positions taken by each of their representatives, particularly Republican members, according to Florida Daily.

According to a statement from Rep. Gaetz’s office, “Rep. Gaetz’s bill would prevent federal funds authorised or appropriated by federal law or any funds in any trust fund of the federal government from being used for Special Counsel Jack Smith’s office and investigation.”

“On July 18, 2023, President Donald J. Trump issued a statement indicating that he is the subject of Special Counsel Smith’s inquiry into the events of January 6. This suggests Special Counsel Smith’s office interfered in elections by using his investigation to target President Trump, who, according to polls of the general public, is the front-runner in the Republican primary for president in 2024,” the statement read.

President Donald J. Trump is being targeted by the government being weaponized. Jack Smith’s office must no longer get funding, and the witch hunt must come to an end, declared Gaetz. “The power of the purse is not something we only use during certain budgetary cycles.
