In addition to continuing to dominate his 2020 challenger, President Joe Biden, former President Donald Trump has shockingly taken the lead in a new poll, shocking many political experts and the typically pro-Biden media.
For instance, a recent ABC News/Washington Post survey showed Trump leading Biden by almost ten points, 51-42 percent, despite the president’s dismal approval ratings for his overall performance.
According to a recent NBC News poll, 44 percent of respondents say they are worse off under Biden than they were before, and Biden has one of the highest disapproval ratings of his administration at 56 percent. Since President Reagan took office in 1986, that proportion has been the highest.
According to the Post-ABC poll, the majority of respondents believed that the economy, food, energy, and petrol costs, the unemployment rate, and average wages were all “poor” or “not so good.”
“91% concurred that the price of food was a drawback. Regarding petrol and energy prices, 87% of respondents agreed, according to the research. “74% are concerned about the state of the U.S. economy, and 75% are concerned about wages.”
Gary Langer of ABC News stated in a survey analysis that “a number of reasons may be at play. Poor performance ratings for Biden, the scope of economic unhappiness, the immigration crisis, and age-related concerns are all unquestionably pertinent.
“All have received significant recent news coverage, focusing public conversation on criticism of the president,” he continued.
The Washington Post instantly questioned its own polling after publishing the survey, stating that the findings were “probably an outlier.”
Trump’s big lead “is significantly at odds with other public polls that show the general election contest as a virtual dead heat,” the outlet reported.
However, senior political analyst and ABC News host Martha Raddatz both seemed surprised by the results.
When breaking down the results on Sunday, Rick Klein, political director for ABC News, remarked, “These numbers are just staggering for the sitting president.” According to this study, 44% of respondents think their financial situation has worsened since the start of the Biden administration two and a half years ago. In our ‘ABC News/Washington Post’ survey, those are the worst results we’ve ever seen. And since the Reagan administration, we have been asking this question.
