Charges of abusing an elderly man suffering from dementia have led to the arrest of a senior TSA officer in the administration of President Joe Biden.
The associate federal security director of the TSA, Maxine McManaman, was taken into custody by U.S. Customs and Border Protection on December 28 at the Atlanta airport after her flight arrived, according to an NBC News report.
The Port St. Lucie police issued a warrant for her arrest, and they made the announcement on Facebook.
“On December 28, 2023, Maxine McManaman, the Assistant Federal Security Director of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), was arrested by U.S. Customs and Border Protection in Atlanta following her arrival from an international flight. Later, she was taken into custody on a PSLPD arrest warrant for one count of third-degree criminal forgery.
McManaman was detained “for a non-work related charge,” according to the TSA, and she is still on leave while the investigation is ongoing.
“TSA does not tolerate misbehaviour by employees, whether they are on or off duty. Employees are held to the highest professional and ethical standards.” A TSA spokesman stated on Friday that “any employee who fails to meet our fundamental ethical standards is held accountable.”
An arrest has previously resulted from a Biden administration official getting into trouble at an airport.
After entering a plea of not guilty to theft charges, nonbinary former senior Biden Department of Energy official Sam Brinton was informed in April of his fate. According to Fox News, he was forced to pay $500 in fines and court costs, as well as $3,670.74 in restitution to the victim of the theft.
However, Judge Ann Zimmerman spared him from doing any time in jail by giving him a 180-day suspended sentence and an instruction to “stay out of trouble.”
Prosecutors in Las Vegas accused Brinton of grand larceny of an item worth at $1,200 to $5,000 at the beginning of December. Brinton is charged by police with taking a luggage at Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas on July 6th, which is estimated to be worth $3,670. $1,700 worth of jewellery was found in the bag.
According to Fox News, “A woman travelling from Washington, D.C. to Las Vegas on July 6 reported one of her checked bags missing shortly after the incident,” a Las Vegas detective stated in a police report relating to the incident. After watching security camera footage, police saw a white male adult who seemed like he was about to leave the airport removing a bag that fit the victim’s description of her lost bag. He was wearing a white T-shirt with a large nuclear symbol design in rainbow colours. But after a quick investigation, detectives were unable to identify the offender, thus they closed the case.
Brinton was suspected of stealing a woman’s luggage at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport in January 2022, with a felony arrest warrant filed for him.
