Attorney General Andrew Bailey of Missouri chastised Attorney General Letitia James of New York this week for her efforts to confiscate the assets of the former president Donald Trump.
Bailey made an appearance on “Fox & Friends First” to talk about the most recent Trump civil lawsuit in New York City and the reasons he thinks taking his assets is illegal.
Donald Trump has unleashed a scathing attack on New York Attorney General Letitia James as the deadline for paying $464 million in his state civil fraud case approaches.
According to Newsweek, James won’t be able to start removing his items until Monday unless the former president posts a bond or settles the outstanding balance.
Judge Arthur Engoron of New York found that Trump and a few of his business associates had overstated their assets falsely in order to obtain better conditions from lenders and insurers.
The former president was ordered by Engoron in February to pay almost $355 million in interest and penalties related to fraud. With this, the total payout amount surpasses $464 million. Trump has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing and plans to appeal the ruling.
In an April interview with ABC News, New York Attorney General James stated that she would not object to pursuing Trump’s real estate.
James declared at the time, “We will seek judgement enforcement mechanisms in court and we will ask the judge to seize his assets if he does not have funds to pay off the judgement.”
