Following a court hearing last week, the former president Donald Trump’s attorney and spokeswoman had nothing kind to say about New York Attorney General Letitia James.
In addition to a permanent injunction prohibiting Trump and his sons, Eric and Donald Trump Jr., from conducting business in the state of New York, James is suing for an estimated $250 million in damages. Before the civil fraud trial started in September, the case’s presiding judge, Arthur Engoron, declared that the former president had exaggerated the worth of his assets and companies to obtain better credit terms. Trump has refuted this finding.
James has attended portions of the trial; lawyer Alina Habba described him as “not that bright” in an interview with Newsmax TV.
She’s simply not that intelligent. She apologised but had to state that she didn’t think James had a strong case. “I’ve seen their case and their solicitors. They have no idea what they’re discussing.
According to The Hill, she went on, “Just because a bank who’s giving you a loan says it’s worth what the loan amount is, which is what happens when anybody takes out a loan, they’re never going to say the real value.” They won’t add anything to what they intend to say, nor will they disclose the precise amount of the loan.
Habba stated, “I don’t even know how to express how ridiculous this is. She needs to educate herself, maybe go to some.” It’s crazy, but it’s like being in a circus with a lot of people. I mean, I can’t say what I want to say on TV. It’s just so silly, you know. It is evident to all rational people that this is utterly absurd.
A veteran federal prosecutor, meanwhile, chastised James for pursuing Trump in a situation in which no one was harmed monetarily.
Andrew McCarthy claimed in an opinion piece that James is “inventing losses no one ever suffered” in an effort to “get Trump.”
Trump has retorted that he has never experienced financial loss with any of the banks or other businesses he has done business with.
McCarthy basically agrees with Trump’s position when he writes in National Review that Tish James and Arthur Engoron are fabricating victims because there aren’t enough in the case against the former president.
The former prosecutor continued by saying that banks would have undoubtedly sought legal action against Trump if he had actually defrauded them out of more than $168 million, but they never did since, in his opinion, they never suffered financial loss.
