Republican senators have responded forcefully to the convictions of the former president Donald Trump in his trial in Manhattan. An increasing number of people have made the decision to boycott all of President Biden’s and the Democrats’ legislative initiatives. “We need to hold those responsible for transforming our legal system into a political club accountable.” We ask all senators who are concerned to join us in opposing any legislative goals or nominees that come from the Democrats. We are no longer working with them. Sen. Mike Less, a Republican from Utah, stated on X, formerly Twitter.
“The White House has made a mockery of the rule of law and fundamentally altered our politics in un-American ways. As a Senate Republican conference, we are unwilling to aid and abet this White House in its project to tear this country apart. To that end, we will not 1) allow any increase to non-security related funding for this administration, or any appropriations bill which funds partisan lawfare; 2) vote to confirm this administration’s political and judicial appointees; and 3) allow expedited consideration and passage of Democrat legislation or authorities that are not directly relevant to the safety of the American people,” the group of senators that includes Sens. Marco Rubio, Tommy Tuberville and Marsha Blackburn, said in a letter to the White House.
And they were not alone as other Republicans attacked the verdict.
In a statement, Tim Sheehy, the Democratic opponent of Democratic Sen. Jon Tester in Montana, referred to the case as “state-sponsored political persecution” and labelled the verdict as “RIGGED.” The Republican candidate for Arizona’s Senate seat, Kari Lake, who is set to challenge Democratic candidate Rep. Ruben Gallego, declared that voters had “just witnessed the most egregious example of election interference and an outright mockery of the rule of law in the 246-year history of our Republic.” This entire procedure has been nothing more than a despicable political ploy, all the way down to the verdict itself.
