In an interview with NBC News, President Joe Biden delivered some of his harshest criticism to date of his probable opponent in November: former President Donald Trump. “You did address Donald Trump and the guilty verdicts on 34 felony counts before the American people?” inquired anchor David Muir.
You advised Americans to honour the verdict in this case as well as the jury. You announced to the group that a convicted felon is running for president while attending a campaign fundraiser. You described it as unsettling. How do you think this should be interpreted by the people of America? In your opinion, how significant a role should this conviction have in the presidential election?
Biden responded: “That’s for the public to decide. But one thing for certain is, stop undermining the rule of law, stop undermining the institutions. That’s what this whole effort is. All the MAGA Republicans are coming out saying this was a fix. This was a jury that was — this was a judge that set up to get Trump. There’s no evidence of any of that. None. He’s trying to undermine it. Look, he got a fair trial. The jury spoke like they speak in all cases and it should be respected.”
Biden also lashed out at Trump’s description of him as being “weak and pathetic.” “Is he describing himself?” Biden responded.
There is a cost to Biden’s criticism of Trump and the Democrat’s irrational assertions that he poses a “threat to democracy”: Nobody, not even the president, seems to be attempting to defend Biden’s performance during his tenure in government, which has been marked by high interest rates, inflation, exorbitant housing expenses, and now another spike in petrol prices.
Additionally, many of sources who have spoken with The Wall Street Journal over the past few months claim that Biden is having even greater cognitive difficulties.
For its study, The Journal spoke with a wide range of people, including Democrats and Republicans as well as White House insiders, and found that many of them had serious concerns about Biden’s mental fitness for the position.
Their concerns align with those of a vast majority of voters as the upcoming election approaches, after years of Biden committing grave mental lapses, ranging from forgetting the timeline of his tenure in office to asserting that he had recently met with individuals who had been deceased for years.
The report was released following Special Counsel Robert Hur’s decision to drop criminal charges against Biden for improperly handling classified material due to Hur’s belief that Biden would not be considered competent to stand trial. Republicans were perplexed by Hur’s portrayal of Biden, questioning how it could be that he is eligible to run for reelection yet unfit to stand prosecution.
In response to the article, the administration either claimed that the majority of the allegations were untrue or made an effort to cast Biden’s words and deeds in a favourable light, despite the general consensus to the contrary. In defence of Biden, several Democrats pointed to a “speech impediment” problem as the reason for his alleged mental decline.
